In our last post, we told you how to
prepare your boat for the summer. Now that the summer is here and it's time to hit the waterways, you should be sure that your engine is protected with the
best oil. Because of the heavy load a boat represents, you should go with a
synthetic oil. Here is why.
No Crude
Synthetic oils are manmade, meaning that they do not contain the crude that remains naturally in conventional oil. Crude makes oil less smooth, breaks down viscosity, and contains contaminants like wax. Eliminating crude makes
synthetic oils more efficient and more resistant to heat and cold.
Better Additives
Scientists can add chemical compounds to the base stock of
synthetic oil to make lubricants that perform better in specific circumstances. In general,
synthetic oils provide better protection against engine wear and oxidation. If your boat is a diesel,
AMSOIL synthetic diesel oil contains alkaline additives that reduce acid build-up in your engine.
Extended Oil Life
Synthetics also last longer, as much as three times longer than conventional oil. In automotive engines, synthetics can last as long as 15,000 miles without needing an oil change. You can spend more time on the water and less money on maintenance.
If you have any questions about whether synthetic oil is the right choice for your boat, or for your car, truck, or motorcycle, contact your
local AMSOIL dealer.
